The Ingram Law Firm is a general practice law office, located in downtown Potsdam, NY.

The firm is the present form of one of the oldest continuing law firms in the county---if not the oldest, and has been open for business in the same block in downtown Potsdam since the turn of the last century.

The firm was started in 1916 by Horace Allen, the second lawyer in Potsdam, who later became Surrogate's Court Judge of the county. The Certificate of Allen's admission to the Bar of the State of New York hangs on the wall in the waiting room, and law books belonging to Allen are in a display case in the firm's waiting room.

Lawyers come, and lawyers go, but the firm's door, through all of the succession of lawyers since Allen, has never closed. The names of the lawyers in the firm's history are intertwined throughout the history of Potsdam, and of St. Lawrence County. The law books in the display case include Session Law volumes which contain the creation of the Town of Potsdam in 1813, the incorporation of the Potsdam Fire Department in 1823, and the formation of the Village of Potsdam in 1833. All of the books on display were from the firm's library, accumulated by predecessor lawyers as they were published.

The current owner of the firm is the third generation of the Ingram lawyers in Potsdam. Two other Ingram lawyers made their homes, and conducted their law pratices, in Ogdensburg, NY, the late William D. Ingram, former County Judge, and the late James R. Ingram. former City Attorney of the City of Ogdensburg.

The first Ingram in this firm was Harry M. Ingram, who practiced law in Potsdam until his death in 1930. He also served as secretary to the Public Utilities Commission of New York, which was the forerunner of the Public Service Commission, and as treasurer of the New York State Bar Association, dividing his time between his law practice in Potsdam and his duties in Albany.

Verner M. Ingram (Sr.) practiced law in Potsdam from 1937 until his death in 1997. He was Village Justice in Potsdam from 1942 to 1956, and member of the New York State Assembly from 1956 through 1966.

Verner M. Ingram, Jr., currently operates the law firm as a solo practice.
